When you’re planning on improving your home, there are a variety of options open to you. You could install items and create rooms for things you’ve always wanted. Or, you could only make changes you know will add value and be universally appreciated by any future potential buyers. And sometimes, the change you want to make, ticks both boxes.
A steam room could be one of those unicorns – it’s something you love and will get a lot of use out of. And, it’s something that’s popular and could add some value to your property.
“While a steam room is rarely on home buyers’ must-have lists, it’s not something that ever puts buyers off,” said Fulham estate agent, Lawsons & Daughters. “Indeed, if a buyer we’re working with sees ‘steam room’ on the property spec, they’re pretty impressed and sometimes, even a little thrilled that they could end up owning a home that has one.”
Always Employ Experienced Professionals
If you’ve taken the plunge and decided that yes, a steam room is what your home needs to make it more comfortable for you, then great! There are a growing number of options for steam rooms in the UK, so you should shop around and get as much advice as you can.
In addition to that, ensure that when it comes to the installation of your own personal steam room, you only let experienced professionals install it for you. As with bathrooms, where water is involved you need to know everything is fitted correctly and you’re not going to end up with nasty leaks in tricky places.
In some cases, you may have the perfect room, all ready to be turned into a steam room. Or, another option is if you have a big bathroom or a dressing room that’s going spare, to install a steam cabin into it. Either choice works well and comes with its own set of pros and cons.
“Adding a fully working steam room to your home shouldn’t be daunting, provided you have everything in place, including someone you trust to fit it,” said Robert Holmes, an estate agent in Wimbledon. “Being happy with the fitter is the best way to put your mind at ease and allows you to enjoy your new room, worry-free.”
Will it Add Value to Your Property?
Yes, it’s likely the addition of a steam room will add some value to your property. Although, maybe not quite as much as it cost to buy and have fitted. That’s not because it isn’t a great and useful addition to your home. But, it’s because a steam room isn’t really something that home-buyers in the UK expect in a home of their own.
It will probably help you secure more viewings, however, which is good news, as the more people who see your home, the more likely you’ll find the right buyer to allow you to move on from there and fulfill your own, new plans.
“If you’re considering fitting a steam room or cabin into your home, for most people, it’s about the pleasure and use you’ll get out of it and not its financial worth as an investment,” said Newington Green estate agent, M&M Property.
“But, it will add more than interest value, so if getting at least some of your money back is on your mind, then don’t be concerned or let it stop you from getting that steam room!”
